Dr Cwengile Sibusiso Gagela qualified MBChB from Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, Durban the year 2010. He completed his internship at the Helen Joseph hospital in 1998, and community service medical officer time at Livingston Hospital in 2013 which included the fields of orthopaedics and intensive care.
In his internship programme, he was granted work exposure in various disciplines which include internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, psychiatry, and emergency medicine. In addition, he was granted exposure at the HIV clinic as well as dealings at the general clinics.
During his tenure at Livingston Hospital, serving in the surgical department, he had the opportunity to alternate between the General Surgery and Vascular units and further assisted in Paediatric surgery slates as including cardiothoracic surgical cases. He completed his registrarship and qualified in Diagnostic Radiology in the year 2020 through the College of Radiologists of South Africa. Throughout his years of training, Cwengile spent time in the Paediatric and Intervention Radiology.
Between 2018 and 2021 he has been employed as a radiologist at the Frontier hospital in the radiology department. Cwengile has held the position of specialist radiologist under the employ of Professor Targonski at Frontier Hospital from 2018 until March 2021. He has a special interest in Intervention Radiology and Thoracic Imaging.
He has completed a number of related courses including Basic Surgical Skills and Advanced Trauma Life Support at Livingston Hospital. Studies currently underway include his Masters in Medicine (MMed) at the University of the Witwatersrand (research submitted January 2021) and Intervention Radiology.
